We lost a rare individual today: A WW II combat veteran of which there are so few left. A dear friend of the tuna club and a man who kept his passion for the sea and fishing well into his ninteis. Don was also a great mechanic, running his shop where I grew up in West Hempstead. Pop was old school very old school, He never threw anything out he'd just fix it. It's hard to list all the things that he did for the club down at the property and was always ready to jump in and help with any projects. Do we have anybody who would or could run the house committee at 90 ? Pop did! When I first called him POP he responded with POP your ass, I thought I did something wrong or pissed him off. I just had to clear the air so I told him that title is reserved for very special people only. It was out of love that he earned the nickname POP. Thats how I could how he was feeling when I talked to him, I would address him with hello POP if his response was POP your ass I new he was OK. In his own words conversations always ended with " OVER AND OUT " To you POP OVER AND OUT.
