Todays Anniversaries 10/31

Today is the 23rd anniversary (10/31/1991) of the event we all know as "The Perfect Storm", and the 73rd anniversary (10/31/1941) of the sinking of the USS Reuben James by U-552 while escorting convoy HX-156 from Iceland to England. The sinking represents the first ship lost by the U.S. Navy in WWII, approx. six weeks before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The event was immortalized in a song composed by Arlo Guthrie and recorded by Johnny Horton. Dr. John J. Weber Jr, DPM
