Ftc annual codfish trip...suggested list of things to bring.

Post by Bigblue »

Can anyone provide a list of things that you should bring on annual codfish trip? Please include tackle and any other gear that you feel would be worthy...thanks.

Not an all inclusive list but here's a start:
- foul weather gear, boots
- under armour, sweatshirt, etc
- large cooler for fish (typically a 160 igloo will be good for 2-3 guys). Some rope to tie down the cooler will come in handy as well
- one or two small coolers for your personal food and drink
- two heavy cod rods (roughly 7 or 8 footers, someone else can jump in with more details on this)
- cod rigs for bait and jigging (a dozen of each at minimum). You could go through four rigs in a drift or four in the whole trip so better safe than sorry
- jigs ranging from 12 to 18 ounces. The most common ones guys use are the Viking jigs (aka sled jig), knife jigs, and the sea rock jigs. Old school jigs like diamond jigs and crippled herring work as well
- regular sinkers in the 12 to 20 ounce range. The size needed will depend on how fast the drift is, I think you can buy on board but that's gonna cost you I'm sure
- sleeping bag and pillow
- lunch foods. Breakfast can be bought on board from the galley chef, kobi. And for 30 bucks he will make the best prime rib dinner within 30 miles on saturday night!
- drinks

it's not everything you'll need, but a good start... Oh yea, don't forget to bring a few bucks for the pool- gotta be in to win it!!

If you are looking for Diamond jigs for the cod trip or bluefish this link might be of some help. I order some of my Fluke jig heads from the web site.

Looks like Tilefish will be the target.

24, 32, 40 and 48 oz sinkers, 3-way swivels, 6/0 hooks, high-speed reels.

See you all tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up on the tilefishing Brian, I don't have any 40 oz sinkers, but I do have a few 20's and some duct tape!! See you at The Dock

Good luck All !

I suspect the FTC tile record will go down, maybe new records for barrel fish and wreck fish too. TBD.

Well according to the scale at Woodcleft, you're right Paul- i weighed my pool winning Tilefish this morning at 31.5 pounds, which would beet the current club record by three pounds!!
