Dear Editor,

I was stunned on Sunday (10/20) when I read the Newsday endorsement of Thomas Suozzi for County Executive. What a disgrace.

It seems Newsday would rather bank their political endorsement on personal relationships rather than merit and accomplishments.

In the editorial you state one must consider the past, if so this is exactly the reason Newsday should not be endorsing Mr. Suozzi and exactly the reason he should not be running again.

In the eights years Mr. Suozzi was County Executive he had the benefit of democratic majority in the legislature, a 100 million dollar gift from the State to deal with the broken assessment system and a raging bull market that drove the national economy.

On top of that he increased taxes by 23%, wanted to tax my heating bill but gave himself a $65k raise. In the end he squandered every one of these benefits and drove the county into the ground. The debt he has and is trying to blame on Ed Mangano is his very own.

As Long Island’s only daily paper, Newsday has an obligation to disclose personal information and remain unbiased in their political endorsements. This is certainly a new low even for Newsday.

We will be cancelling our home delivery subscription to Newsday.
