Re: jones beach air show

Was at the show most of the day Saturday 11-3 anchored out in the ocean at the edge of the no-entry zone about 1/4 mi west of the Needle. Only about 50-60 boats out there. I am not sure I follow Bill's comment that the beach is the only place you can see the whole show? I can't see how from 1 nm off...

Re: blue angels, anyone going

I'll be going on Saturday, assuming the weather cooperates - it looks good now.
Plan on getting out there around 11:30 and staying until the Blue Angels finish up around 2:45 p.m.
I will be in the ocean on the west side of the Needle as close to off the beach as the closed zone allows.

Re: Bluefin Regs Change... One for the good guys....

Larry, You are mostly right: from New York State DEC, you need the $250 commercial food fish license + $250 party/headboat permit, and if you want to sell your BFT, you also need a $500 commercial landing license. On the Federal side, you need an HMS party/charter permit, and if you choose that cate...

Re: For Sale 31 JC Boat

Have you decided it is time to hang up your fishing rods - or are you just going a different path with a new boat?

Re: VHF Antenna's

It is a good article; and it looks like my running two Shakespeare 5225XP's was the right choice.

Salvage and Marine Insurance

I thought I would follow up on some of the questions Larry had about insurance coverage for salvage under a marine insurance policy at last night's monthly meeting which featured an excellent presentation by Sea Tow of Freeport. While most would assume that insurance for salvage falls under the insu...

Re: Raft Repack - Group Buy?

$1200 for three years of no repacking I'll take that deal. You can only get a three year repack if: that is what your raft is designated for by its manufacturer - most of the newer non-commercial Revere's and Viking's are; and, you are not using the boat for commercial purposes - i.e. even 6-pack c...

Re: Big Game De-Hookers

For shark, with the 10/0 and 11/0 hooks, it works pretty well, although we are only between 50-60% successful. It takes some practice, the shark has to be hooked in the mouth area and in the right position next to the boat to snap it out of its mouth. The calmer the shark is, the better it works. As...
